Trending Now: Men’s Wedding Bands

Go the custom route at Worthington Jewelers, where they know how to have fun with jewelry design. On-site goldsmiths and gemologists are a plus, but it’s staffers’ awesome sense of how you can be trendy without going too far that keeps customers returning. Try setting a small stone into a simple gold or platinum band.

Fix it: Jewelry & Apparel

Symptoms: Rings or other jewelry are showing wear.

Diagnosis: If two rings have been worn next to each other for years (as with engagement rings and wedding or anniversary bands), they have probably worn unevenly and weakened the band or stone settings. Vicki Warnecke, sales manager and graduate gemologist at Worthington Jewelers, gauges how attached the customer is to the piece before helping her decide whether to remount or create something new. “If they want to remount, we have to look at it and ask, ‘Can we get it to the point where it can be worn every day?’ Sometimes you’re beyond that,” she says.

Cost: Varies widely. Retipping prongs can cost $60 to $100, but a custom design can climb to $1,200 to $2,000, depending on metals and other variables.

Instore Magazine Names Worthington Jewelers One of America’s Coolest Stores

Jewelry Trade publication Instore magazine names Worthington Jewelers one of America’s “Coolest” Jewelry Stores in 2012.

COOL FACTOR: The store’s newly expanded showroom melds a 107-year-old historic building with a new addition that emphasizes traditional style in its handmade cases and craftsman-style architecture and stained-glass light fixtures.

Situated on the town’s village green, which dates back to 1803, the 107-year-old original building now boasts a craftsman-style addition whose wide-open feel reflects the store’s corporate culture.

Sun pours in through big windows, and minimal, elegant handmade cases guide shoppers along a graceful path through the showroom. The high ceilings and bright lighting give the area a smart, comfortable vibe. And the dark wood floor and redbrick wall lend it an air of classic dignity.

Worthington Jeweler’s very own David Hakimian, now a student at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, has had one of his jewelry designs featured in Harper’s Bazaar UK! “Spring Flowers” is a two-finger ring in Palladium, featured in the images below.

Below is an article by Adina Zilberman about the inspiration for the ring!

“Palladium – a naturally white precious metal belonging to the platinum family that maintains its beautiful color and shape over time. It is light and strong making it an excellent choice for fine jewelry.

The Palladium Project – A collaborative effort between myself, two delightful F.I.T (Fashion Institute of Technology) students- David and Marina, and the Palladium council, to create a stunning piece of jewelry from Palladium.

Most of you may recall me discussing a certain Palladium Project late last year. Well beauties, I am happy to announce that our design has finally come to fruition! Witness, a gorgeous two-fingered flower ring, made solely from Palladium. The inspiration? That peacock ring that you see above. I wanted a ring that was both trendy and timeless, modern, yet simple in its feminine touches. Fortunately, that is exactly what I got.

I am so incredibly elated with the outcome of this very special project. I’d love to hear all of your thoughts on the piece, in the comments!

Once again, a very special thanks to both the students, and to the Palladium Council, for making this beautiful ring possible!”

Congratulations, David!
